Brian says about his paintings: “The world is our
scenery. Seeing means giving shape and form to everything our eyes take in as
they play with the world. And because everything my eyes take in is in me, the
symbolic, suggestive idols of the world can become icons. In the simplest terms
art is the same as life; expression, making connections, always a gravitation
towards meaning.”
Brian Self had his second art exhibition within two
years, continuing a theme which seems to hold his attention: the composition of
landscapes and still lifes and transformation into basic forms and spaces.
Strong and vibrant where there is sun and shade, often several layers of colour
on top of each other but transparent to show the life underneath with the
weight of colours in balance.
Intellectual construction.
Brian Self is an architect and traveler, a journeyman,
