Catalköy Belediye Tiyatro Su with ‘To become a Star, is it easy?’

A new play for the closing of this year’s Theatre Festival – a new play by the Catalköy Belediye Tiyatro Su, who entered the festival with three plays altogether, under the directorship of Nermin Uğur. Derman Atik, the head of the theatre said that it is a very good experience for a theatre group, especially for an amateur and non-profit theatre group to play under the guidance of a different and professional director. They are very grateful. Here my review on the festival itself and my visit to one of the other plays.

It is for me a pleasure and fun to come to the Çatalköy Theatre because I love the way the local audience is so much emotionally involved. They love their theatre and whenever I go I meet the same people and in the meantime we know each other and exchange news. This is how it should be, also considering the fact that the members of the theatre group invest a lot of time and work to follow their passion, and this is so for many years now.

The play was about a young woman who craves to become a star in the entertainment sector in 1944 and it is shown what roads she has to walk to get there. The professional singer who is already an arrived artist is played by a well-known genre singer of Turkish music and she is not only welcomed and admired on the stage in the play but also by the local audience who sing along with her. What an experience for me to see my neighbours act and join in the well-known songs of their youth.
