Not
so long ago I had reported on children education activities going on in one of
the Girne Municipality buildings near the Wednesday Market… here the link….

Now,
the organisers announced the exhibition at the end of the term which took place
at the Leymosun Kültür Evi which is situated next to the sports area on the
road down to the new harbor.
Parents
and kids excitedly waited for the Mayor of Girne, Nidai Güngördü, and for their teacher to open the exhibition.
They have been working hard and with great enthusiasm, as I was witness.
When
the reader looks at the photos I have taken during the exhibition you will
realize that it is the aim of teaching that there is no limit to the use of
materials to create something, to exalt the imagination, to encourage free
development and …which is very important….to give fun and excitement, and at
the same time to improve cooperation among groups of children; children learn
to accept the otherness of the others which is a most important factor in
society and the earlier they learn it the better.
I
admire the involvement of the teachers, the joy they have with the art
education….and it shows. Zehra Sonya is not only the President of EMAA – European
Mediterranean Art Association – she is involved in so many art activities that
she hardly finds the time for her own work which is sculpting; for the last
year she was working on a sculpture project in front of the Amphitheatre of
Girne.
Children
will always remember this very precious time just as I have never forgotten my
first art teachers, they were the first to teach me to learn to see.
