Kadir
Kaba has dedicated his life to photography, not only with respect to his own
activities but to promoting photography, art photography, and doing intensive research
on Cyprus Turkish photography. Please read my texts on earlier book

This
new book about “M.Fevzi Akarsu, the Founder of Modern Turkish Cypriot
Photography” was launched on April 13 at EMAA (European Mediterranean Art
Association) together with an exhibition of original old photographs, partly
from his own private archive and partly by courtesy of friends and members of
the Akarsu family who also came to the opening evening.
The
book is written in Turkish and English and it gives precious information on the
political and social ongoings during those early years in the 20th
century. The research was done with the utmost accuracy and I am sure it took
him many years to accomplish this task.
In
2005 I had led an interview with Kadir Kaba for the English newspaper Cyprus
Today which is published in my book ‘Art and Creativity in North Cyprus, Volume
I’ together with other photographers; I learnt many eye-opening things.
The
book was sponsored by EMU Eastern Mediterranean University and Prof. Dr. Naciye
Doratli, Head of the Faculty of Architecture and Director of the Department of
Cyprus Studies, and the Rector of the
university, Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam, both spoke about the importance of Kadir
Kaba’s contribution on the occasion of the opening. Zehra Sonya, President of
our Art Association had set up the exhibition and organized the event and
welcomed the guests. HE Mustafa Akinci
and Meral his wife, were very impressed by the photos on display and Kadir Kaba
took the opportunity to thank the President, former Mayor of Nicosia who in
that function had often supported the art activities, competitions and
exhibitions.
A
document worthwhile to read for those who are interested in Cyprus.
