Gülter Kuran, former Director of Postal Services from 1998 – 2001 has brought out her second book, the research she had already started when still in service. Her first book covering the period 1970-1998 on Postage Stamps and First Day Covers came out in 1999. Now she has finalized her research work to collect the information and is now happy to present her work to the public. The book is both in English and Turkish.
In her introduction Gülter Kuran says with her own words:
“As the Director of Postal Services, I had always been astonished by the history, not only of the postal services, but of the Turkish Cypriots themselves, as depicted on many stamps and cachets used throughout the years. The more issues I saw, the more I was determined that this record of life and times in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus should not only exist on stamps and cancellations but must also be recorded for posterity. To this end I decided that the stamp issues, the covers and the cachets needed to be collected in book form so that a tangible record would remain.”
