SCREENINGS AT THE SHOE FACTORYJANUARY - MARCH 2013The Shoe Factory, 304 Ermou Str, Nicosia ENTRANCE FREE ALL SCREENINGS START AT 8.00PMFILMS SHOWN IN ORIGINAL LANGUAGE WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES Shake off the winter blues and brave the elements – Pharos is offering another extraordinary selection of rare eclectic films that explore universal ideas about life and death, war and peace, sanity and insanity, space and time. Films which reflec! t and complement each other. Films which are full of cross references that explore our inner and exterior landscapes – at the tools we make, from language to weapons , from the creation of our world to its destruction. The films are intended to be experienced as a whole, providing a fascinating glimpse into the human condition – the folly of its destructive tendencies as well as its creative exuberance. We start with a tribute to the great 20th century architect Oscar Niemeyer whose modernist and sensual buildings were inspired by the landscape of Rio and the shape of the female body. These films explore the great struggles of the human spirit, the search for meaning and beauty, the nature and purpose of work, the use and abuse of language and the manipulation of our senses.OSCAR NIEMEYER - A VIDA É UM SOPROMonday 28 January 2013 Director: Fabiano MacielDuration: 90 minsCountry of origin: 2005 / Brazil OVER YOUR CITIES GRASS WILL GROWWednesday 30 January 2013 Director: Sophie FiennesDuration: 100 mins Country of origin: 2011 / FranceMANUFACTURED LANDSCAPESMonday 4 February 2013 Director: Jennifer BaichwalDuration: 83 minsCountry of origin: 2007 / CanadaEXAMINED LIFE Wednesday 6 February 2013 Director: Astra TaylorDuration: 90 minsCountry of origin: 2009 / CanadaNOTRE MUSIQUEMonday 11 February 2013 Director: Jean-Luc GodardDuration: 76 minsCountry of origin: 2004 / FranceA GRIN WITHOUT A CAT Director: Chris MarkerDuration: 180 minsCountry of origin: 1977 / FranceWednesday 13 February 2013 Part 1: Fragile HandsFrom Vietnam to Che’s death & May 1968 and all that Monday 18 February 2013 Part 2: Severed HandsFrom the Prague Spring to the so- called “Union of the Left” in France & From Chile to – to what?WARD No.6Monday 25 February 2013 Directors: Karen Shakhnazarov / Aleksandr GornovskyDuration: 83 minsCountry of origin: 2009 / RussiaPALMS (LADONI)Wednesday 27 February 2013 Director: Artur AristakisyanDuration: 140 minsCountry of origin: 1993 / Russia MCLUHAN’S WAKEMonday 4 March 2013 Directors: Kevin McMahon, David SobelmanDuration: 94 minsCountry of origin: 2002 / CanadaTHE WAR YOU DON’T SEE Wednesday 6 March 2013 Director: John PilgerDuration: 97 minsCountry of origin: 2010 / UKEDWARD JAMES: BUILDER OF DREAMS Wednesday 13 March 2013Director: Avery DanzigerDuration: Country of origin: 1995 / USATHE FOG OF WARWednesday 20 March 2013 Director: Errol MorrisDuration: 95 minsCountry of origin: 2003 / USATHE MOST DANGEROUS MAN IN AMERICA: DANIEL ELLSBERG AND THE PENTAGON PAPERSMonday 25 March 2013 Directors: Judith Ehrlich & Rick GoldsmithDuration: 92 minsCountry of origin: 2009 / USAIN SHIFTING SANDS: THE UNTOLD STORY OF WEAPONS INSPECTIONS IN IRAQWednesday 27 March 2013 Director: Scott Ritter Duration: 74 mins Country of origin: 2001 / USAARAKIMENTARIFriday 29 March 2013 Director: Travis KloseDuration: 74 mins Country of origin: 2004/ USA
