Exhibition of Ceramic Art ZAMAN
Following the workshop in Edremit on April 4 and the open studios of three artists the results of ten days of work by the members of the Ceramists Association were exhibited at the Atatürk Cultural Centre from April 14 – 18.
The theme was Zaman /Time, the transistoriness of things, ideas and relations. Today’s understanding of ceramic art holds no longer any limits for the artists, they play with forms and use all kinds of means and materials to find new ways of expression. From two- to three-dimensional, as pictures to hang on the wall, as big sized sculptures or as installations. The various methods of firing and a widened use of glazes have given the art an interesting spectrum. More and more students of art decide to go into ceramics which belongs to one of the oldest art forms of our world.
The Ceramicists’ Association was founded in 1999 by just seven original members, and it now boasts 86 members (23 academic ceramic artists and 63 others). The current president of the association is Semral Öztan.
A former leader of the association is Hasan Eminağa who, with his former classmate and partner Tomrul Tomgüsehan, are best known as the owners of Dizayn 74 in Karaoğlanoğlu. The pottery shop, which opened on 13 October 1974, the first of its kind in North Cyprus, also offers services to hobby ceramicists selling clay and glazes and accepting their work for firing in the Dizayn 74 kilns.
If you want more information on the association also offering professional courses in various schools, go to Dizayn 74 and ask one of the owners.
