The
basic message is: Where there is art active and productive, there is society
alive. It is the truth. I include here the press text issued by Near East
University to speak for themselves.

Dr.
Suat Günsel, founder and owner of Near East University has a noble goal, that
is not only the basic aim of education but the support of the arts and the
preservation of artistic heritage. We have been able to experience and follow
his endeavors over the last years with art events, exhibitions, the creation of
the new Museum for Modern Art, his support for other art disciplines. It leaves
us breathless.
The
exhibition on April 25 was to honour the artist Ismet Vehit Güney who died ten
years ago, I wrote the text under the following link ‘In Memoriam of Ismet
Vehit Güney’.

Many
local artists were invited to celebrate the 10th anniversary of his
death together with his daughter Nilgün Güney, artist and founder of the Art
Association EMAA. It was a very impressive event and the exhibition halls at
the Atatürk Culture and Congress Centre were hardly sufficient to take up the
142 artworks by 61 artists. I met with many known faces and artworks. Please
find attached the list of participating artists. The curator of this event is Dr. Mustafa Hastürk.
In
the presence of Dr. Suat Günsel and many of the academic staff, and Minister
President Tufan Erhürman, the ceremony began and the exhibition opened. A bust
of Ismet V. Güney was created by Dr. Raif Demililer, Fine Arts Faculty. Well
captured. The honoured artist is well
known and respected all over the island, and the Cyprus flag he created, is
still flown. In the art centre that is named after him many art exhibitions
take place and there is hardly any idle time for the managing department, the centre is booked
out over the year.
It
is a very interesting and informative art exhibition with all kind of
disciplines, large sized paintings on canvas, drawings, prints and stencil art,
graphic design, ceramics and sculptures. Unfortunately the photos I took are
not very good, I did not have my usual camera, the battery was gone, so I had
to take a small camera I had never worked with. I should have used my I-phone
instead. I have chosen a handful to show the variety of the exhibition.
The
exhibition is still open until May 08, viewing times 10:00 – 16:00 hrs.
