International Artists Residency, 9 – 18 February 2015 - Nicosia
February 2015, Nicosia - The European Mediterranean Art
Association (EMAA) and the Rooftop Theatre Group are pleased to announce that
the residency entitled ‘Stimulating synapse’,
curated by the well-known Croatian curator Branko Franceschi, is bearing
its fruits.
February 13th Friday evening at 18:00 o'clock – Open talk / get-together with the visiting curator
Branko Franceschi. This meeting will offer Cypriot visual and performance
artists the opportunity to introduce themselves and their work to him for
possible future collaborations. Venue: EMAA Capital Art
Center.
In the
meantime, the team of five participating artists, Carl Michael von Hausswolff
(Sweden), Ana Elizabet (Croatia), Paul Devens (Netherlands), Erhan Oze
(Cypriot) and Eleni Phyla (Cypriot), are working together intensely for ten
days, researching, exploring border lines on the island and producing their
work.
Wednesday 18th – evening
at 19:30 o'clock – Opening of the Exhibition
EMAA and Rooftop are presenting the artistic outcome of this first
residency in the ‘Stimulating Synapse’
exhibition, with the works of the participating artists, who have all also
agreed to donate these works of art to EMAA,
giving a further chance to this exhibition to be hosted in other cities
of the island..

The curator Branko Franceschi is director of the Museum of Fine Arts in
Split, Croatia www.galum.hr. From 1987 to
2004 he was a program director at the Miroslav Kraljevic Gallery in Zagreb,
from 2004 to 2008 an executive director of the Museum of Modern and
Contemporary Art in Rijeka, Croatia, in 2008 - 2010 a director of the Croatian
Association of the Visual Artists in Zagreb, Croatia, in 2010 - 2014 Franceschi
was director of the Virtual Museum of Avant-garde Art www.avantgarde-museum.com and president
of the Institute for the Research of Avant-garde.
All residencies and exhibitions are carried out within the framework of
the EU funded project "Confrontation Through Art: Contemporary Art as an
Instrument for Reconciliation in Cyprus", 2014-2017.
A second Open Call for a similar residency program in March 2015 for
Young Artists will soon be announced on the website.
