It is for me a MUST to see the results of the yearly youth competition,  because you can see where the young people are heading, whether the new tendencies will have some right of continuation in the future, what techniques are being used and generally learn what moods they are in, for example if protest is in the air.

This year nearly all entries have been accepted: From 26 young artists with 80 works 25 were accepted with 68 works, that is quite a high rate, I think.  The jury were three renowned and respected local artists – Inci Kansu, Emel Samioğlu and Güner Pir. The jury members have announced their decisions:

We have some good art educational institutions in the TRNC with very good teachers and I know that some young artists seek further detailed education with private tutors of the older generation which helps them to develop their own style and deepen their experience with the various techniques.

The oldest artist participating was born in 1985, the youngest in 1998, 1981 and 2000 being the limit of age for participation.

I realised that in this exhibition acrylic was mostly used, then digital art processes, then mixed media and collages and at the end oil painting and finally pencil drawing.

The art works represent messages, they are hardly decorative but meaningful, with some exceptions where the technique itself is in the foreground.

A very interesting exhibition, young and fresh.

The exhibition is still open until 06 May; viewing times are according to official governmental office hours.
