An
unforgettable event, especially since it was dedicated to our friend and TV man
Hakan Çakmak who so suddenly died this year. I will never forget him standing
next to me with his movie camera, on the left hand side of the stage over all
these years. An award was handed over to his wife at the end of the concert.
In
the order of appearance I have listed the opera singers who gave us a
well-chosen selection of beautiful arias.
Laden
Ince (TRNC)
Çinara
Şirinova (Azerbaycan)
Dilruba
Akgün (Turkey)
Jupar
Gabdullina (Kazaktistan)
Ilyas
Artagaliyev (Kazakistan)
Ilnura
Samarbekova (Kirgistan)
….and
pianists Assel Davletyarova and Medet Osmanov
The
evening started with two musical pieces sung by our soprano Laden Ince as the
representative of the host country and she was enthusiastically welcomed by her
fans in the audience; we have not seen and heard her for a while. I have to
mention the second piece by R. Denktaş and E. Gündüz
‘Zeytinden aşı mısın’ Laden sang so beautifully that a shiver ran down my
spine. She later told me that she found it appropriate to sing a Cypriot song
which she loved singing herself.
(Here
a link to the 17th Türksoy Opera Days where she was representing her
country. The text shows the importance of the event and gives some details
about Türksoy).

The
atmosphere in Bellapais was beautiful and we all appreciated the rare occasion
of having such beautiful voices with us. It is always an event we are looking
forward to. A big thank you to the
artists and to the Ministry of Culture and Education for organising it.
