“A life course engraved on the face”
Art introduced into the social welfare has always been one of the aims of the Art Studio of Nicholas Panayi. Within this framework, mature students meet every Thursday at the Nicosia Municipal Multicare Center, where elderly people meet during the day.
The students get to know, sketch or paint these people who participate with great pleasure. They have the opportunity to see how a work of art is created and the students on their part have the chance to study interesting faces that are marked with a long life of experiences.
Works are created in charcoal, pencil, pastels and paints. Mrs. Maria, Mr. Giorgos pose gladly for the students, another complains that nobody has sketched her yet and students rush to do just that and all of them are eagerly waiting for the day when the art works will be exhibited.
Mrs. Eleni says: “ My grandchildren will come and see how beautiful you have sketched me” and she offers fruit to her doctor, who is one of the art students.
The target of this venture is for all involved, to mutually benefit and encourage each other through creativity.
The aim is the moral uplifting and improvement of the quality of life for elderly people and to render “the more privileged” us, more sensitive to their emotional and spiritual needs.
A selection of the finished works and sketches will be exhibited at the Myloi Cultural Center in Kaimakli, on November 23rd at 20:00. The exhibition will be opened by the Minister of Labour and Social Insurance Mrs. Sotiroulla Charalambous.
