In 2014 the first bust was
erected with all the family present, friends and colleagues, the first bust in
clay, a public figure in clay just as vulnerable as in person. Read all about

Then, in 2015 two youngsters
drunk and stupid, demolished the sculpture. We were all sad about it, about the
demolition but also about the behaviour of the two youths.
Now, two years later, Sevcan
Cerkez’ new sculpture of Beni Hakki Hakeri has been erected in the same place,
even more beautiful, polished and shining and indestructible this time. Literature
cannot be demolished.
Friends and family came
forward to bring back memories of this fine man Beni Hakki Hakeri and they
thanked Sevcan Cerkez for her beautiful work. HE Mustafa Akıncı lifted the
black veil from Sevcan’s sculpture and
thus officially gave it to the public. Perhaps when you pass there and talk to
it, ask a question about a problem you have, you might find an answer….. that
is what memorials are there for.
