During the
interview for my book ‘Art and Creativity in North Cyprus’ sculptor Zehra Şonya
says the following: “Chaos is a catalytic agent for energy, my energy. Chaos is
a state where everything is turned upside down but it gives a new significance
to my identity as a human, to my identity as an artist, because I can fight for
something, against the chaos, thus I find myself in a constant state of loading
and unloading.” Zehra Şonya goes to the space beyond.
Zehra Şonya is holding her third solo exhibition
after ten years. The exhibition will be inaugurated by Mrs Meral Eroğlu. Together with the
exhibition is the launch of a book of the same title.
Not aesthetic concerns, but concepts dominate this
exhibition. The main focus is on images that depict women’s issues.
The artist uses the critical language of art to express current
reality, and makes references to social shortcomings.
The book is written by Zeynep Yasa-Yaman, PhD, Art History teacher at Hacettepe University, with
the support of the TRNC Presidency. It is
published in two languages and it unearths and scrutinises the artist’s work of
ten years. Karkot Organic, Cyprus representative of Küp Winery’s is
supporting the arts as usual with wine for the guests on the evening of the
opening.
The exhibition will be open to public from 29th
November to 30th December 2013, and the opening hours are as follows:
Monday-Thursday; 10:00-12:00 /18:00 – 20:00;
