Tony Woods, long term Alsançak resident, is
planning to make a Tandem Paraglide Flight in aid of Tulips (Help Those with
Cancer) Charity. Tony, who will be 72 years of age, when he jumps,
was diagnosed with advanced Prostate Cancer in January 2011. Before being
diagnosed Tony suffered from Malignant Spinal Compression caused by the spread
of the cancer to his spine. This impedes his mobility making the flight an
extra challenge for him. Tony was a Head Teacher, for many years and after
retirement ran a Rural Life Museum, sold Insurance and also worked for Marie
Curie Cancer Care in Crewkerne Somerset.
He will be making his hair-raising, fundraising
flight with Highline Air Tours, between October 25th and 30th while his
two sons, one daughter in law, one grandson, one stepson and step granddaughter
will be visiting from England. The actual date of the flight will be confirmed
nearer the time as weather conditions will have to be taken into consideration.
The family are looking forward to Tony
being the dare devil. "He is being very brave," said
stepson Gerald Smith, who lived in Alsancak for some years. "He has
not done anything this daring for many years. We are all looking forward to
being there to cheer him on."
Tulips fundraisers and volunteers will be out and
about with sponsor forms allowing everyone the chance to sponsor this brave
man.
You find the sponsorship form on my website www.heiditrautmann.com to
download and fill in with as many sponsors you can get hold of. These are also
available at Tulips stall at Chateau Lambousa, Tulips Boutique in Alsancak and
at the Upper Crust Bakery in Karakum.
