SIDESTREETS IN ITS 5th YEAR
As part of its Fifth Anniversary events, Sidestreets will be creating and unraveling a variety of artistic and cultural vignettes over the coming months.
The first event will be an exhibition of *“Art in Transit.” This exhibition will be in place during 14-16 November (10.00-16.00) only. Many other short events such as video installations, seminars, lectures, workshops and film screenings will follow at intervals.

SIDESTREETS 5. YILINDA
Sidestreets, 5. yıldönümü programları çerçevesinde önümüzdeki aylarda, minik pencerelerde sanatsal ve kültürel etkinliklerini başlatıyor.
*“Art in Transit” sergisi ilk programımız. İki gün süreyle Sidestreets’te, 15 ve 16 Kasım’da 10.00 ile 16.00 saatleri arasında izlenebilecek. Art in Transit, İstanbul Contemporary ‘de Emin Çizenel’in Kare Galeri tarafından sergilenecek iki büyük tuvalini içeriyor. “Airmail Butterflies” 170cm x 180 cm tuval üzerine mum isi ve origami, “Provocation” ise 200cm x 300 cm tuval üzerine mum isi ve tempera’dan oluşan, sanatçının en yeni iki eseridir. (ücretsiz)
“Art in Transit” is comprised of two of Emin Çizenel’s latest paintings: “Airmail Butterflies” (170cm x 180cm; soot and origami on canvas), and “Provocation” (200cm x 300 cm; soot and tempera on canvas). These paintings are being exhibited at Sidestreets just before being transported to İstanbul where they will be part of the Istanbul Contemporary art fair, represented by Kare Gallery. Breaking the Rules, Johann Pillai’nin 20 yüzyıl görsel şiirlerinden yola çıkarak yaptığı yorumlarla onları performansa dönüştürme halidir. Oldukça enerjik, mizahi ve hatta zaman zaman çok komik olmasının yanında, estetik ve entellektüel algılara hitap eden canlı bir performanstır. (ücret :5TL)
“Breaking the Rules,” performed live by Johann Pillai, is an interpretation of works of visual and sound poetry of the 20th century. This performance is unique in its energy and aesthetic form, and also in its stimulation of the intellect while being humorous and even comical at times. (fee: 5TL)

Eye Trap 28 - 29 kasım /november

Eye Trap, küratör Carmen Beckenbach’ın seçimleriyle Christian Aberle (Schicker Schamane Weckt Bunte Geister/Fancy Shaman Evokes Checkered Ghosts 2007-08) ve Blaffert and Wamhof’un (Year World Js So Far From The One J Know-2006) videolarından hazırlanmış video gösterimleridir. İki gün süreyle 17.00 ile 19.00 saatleri arasında izlenebilecektir. (ücretsiz)
“Eye Trap” is an exhibition of two video works selected by curator Carmen Beckenbach: Christian Aberle’s “Schicker Schamane Weckt Bunte Geister”/”Fancy Shaman Evokes Checkered Ghosts” (2007-08), and Blaffert and Wamhof’s “Year World Js So Far From The One J Know” (2006). The video installation will be active for two days between the hours of 17.00-19.00. (free of charge)

Anber Onar’ın 2005’de Lefkoşa Mahkemeler önünde sergilemiş olduğu dev sanat enstelasyonu, radikal bir biçimde Lefkoşa Belediyesi tarafından yıktırılmıştı. Hem basından hem de sanat dünyasından gelen tepkilerle, hem ulusal hem de uluslararası sosyo-politik söylemin içerisinde okuyucu bulan bu proje, bugünün gündemi ile ilişkilenerek , video ve dökümantasyon sergisi olarak sunulacaktır. “Outside the Projects,” a huge work installed by Anber Onar in 2005 on the facade of a five-story building in Nicosia, was torn down by the Nicosia Municipality. Besides the reactions shown by the press and arts organizations, the artwork tapped into its readers’ socio-political concerns, both nationally and internationally. Through video and documentation, this exhibition situates itself within contemporary and current environmental and social issues. (free of charge)

Craft Workshop/Elişi Atölye:

Geçtiğimiz aylarda Bandabuliyada 100 den fazla ilgil kişilere ulaşan ve Sidestreets organizasyonu ile gerçekleşen popüler bir atölye çalışmasıyla ilişkili olarak, Bu kez de Sidestreets mekanında , eski bir Kıbrıs geleneği olan hurma dalından yelpaze yapımı öğretilecektir. Bu süre içerisinde kolayca yapacağınız her yelpaze, evinize birlikte götüreceğiniz bir eski ama yeni hediye olacaktır. Önceden rezervasyon gerekmektedir. (ücret:20TL)
In recent months Sidestreets has organized and led workshops on making traditional Cypriot date-leaf fans at the Bandabuliya, where more than 100 people have participated. This time we will be teaching this very special skill and unique tradition to interested visitors at Sidestreets. Participants will have fun, easily learning to make their fans during the workshop, and at the end they will leave with an old, traditional skill and a new gift. Advance reservations are necessary. Oldukça esrarengiz 3 yıllık sürecin bir kesitini izletebilme amacıyla Dr. Johann Pillai’nin ofisi bir galeri mekanına taşınıyor. Son yıllarda bir dedektif gibi çalışarak oldukça radikal bir biçimde su yüzüne çıkardığı birçok bilinmezi bugün hala hangi mezralarda aradığını gösterirken, bu buluntuların bir bilgi olarak kitaplara geçmesinin yanında, her bir buluntu bir sergi elemanı haline de geliyor. Canlı ve interaktif bir ortamın yaratılacağı programda, katılımcılar pasif izlemek yerine, kendilerini bu araştırma ortamında aktif ve tartışabilir olarak bulabilecekler. Ziyaretler Çarşamba veya Cuma günlerinde randevu alınarak gerçekleşebilir.

In order to allow interested people to peek into three fascinating years of obsessive research and follow the mysterious processes of Dr. Johann Pillai’s detective work, we are moving his research office into Sidestreets’ gallery space. Working from unlikely clues and digging out a vast range of unknown and lost facts and objects, he continues to solve mysteries in the most unexpected places and realms. His finds are not just becoming facts to be written about; they also form the elements for this exhibition. In this live and interactive office/exhibition program, participants are not passive onlookers, but active discussants and participants in a stimulating research environment. Visiting days are Wednesdays and Fridays by appointment only.
