“If your Vagina could talk what would it say in two words?”
Responses to these and other questions asked to women of all age groups and backgrounds around the world are shared in Eve Ensler’s ‘The Vagina Monologues’. Some talk about their experiences of orgasm; one rape victim from Bosnia talks about her present relationship with her vagina; another describes it as part of the miracle of birth.
Eve Ensler wrote the first draft of the Monologues in 1996 following interviews that she conducted with over 200 women about their views on sex, relationships and violence against women. Each monologue relates somehow to some aspect of the vagina, revealing real women’s stories of intimacy, vulnerability and sexual self discovery. You will laugh, you will wince, you will be angry, and hopefully you will be leave inspired.
This October, ACT or Anglo-Cypriot Theatre brings ‘The Vagina Monologues’ in English for the first time to Cyprus. The directors of this unique production are Athena Xenidou and Thadd Correia. There will be a total of 11performances – the first six will be presented by ACT in Nicosia, and Xmas Productions will then take the show to Limassol for three nights and to
Larnaca for the last two performances. The proceeds from the entire production will go towards the following non-profit organizations working in different capacities with girls and women in Cyprus: Association for the Prevention and Handling of Violence in the Family, Cyprus Family Planning Association and KISA.
ACT is an amateur theatre group of charitable status formed in Cyprus in 1982. Over the past 28 years, it has staged a considerable number of diverse productions and annually contributes to local charities from the net revenues of its productions.
