Before the courageous swimmers could even start
their Christmas Day Swim for “Those with Cancer” a solidly packed seaweed
embankment had to be cleared away to make the event a swimming and not a
climbing one, so I was told by Sue Tilt:
“On Christmas Eve morning Ken, Shelly and Sarah
Massey, Jayne Woods and myself gathered on the beach to make an access point
for our Christmas Day Swim, we would like to say a massive thank you to Ken,
Shellie, Sarah and Jayne for digging in as it was a back breaking 1.5 hours of
incredibly hard work.”
The swimmers were: Isabella Partington - at 8yrs of
age she was our youngest participant!, Jackie Pennington, Sue Singer, Phil
Barnes, Ken Massey, Duncan Leitch, Steve Owen, David Foulke and Jayne Woods.
Everything was ready for the big day itself, and
judging from the photos they must have enjoyed it tremendously, especially the
mulled wine, donated by the Food Lodge Catalköy when they came back out of the
cold water. The sponsors and Father Christmas were encouraging them from the
land (Engin from the Tulips Office carried a big sack full of presents for the
swimmers).
The Tulips Angels want to thank the
organiser Jayne Woods who organised the event, the swimmers who were brave
enough to enter the sea, all the sponsors and supporters that came down to
encourage our swimmers. The swimmers are still collecting their sponsorship
money and as soon as the final figure is available we will advise you.
Sue and Carole wish a Happy New Year in the name of TULIPS
