Zamana Dair….With respect to
Time…roughly translated.
For some years now I have
been following the students’ exhibition of the Near East University’s Teachers
Faculty and I find they do great work, not only are they approaching art by
many ways, be it pencil drawing, various forms of printing and the whole range
of painting techniques, but they try to study and appreciate the works of
artists over the centuries…..which you could see in the last exhibition at the
Ismet Güney Art Centre in Nicosia.
Large size paintings based
on paintings of Old Masters such as Michelangelo Caravaggio, Vermeer and painters
of the last century such as Picasso, Georges Braque, Emil Nolde, Paul Gauguin, Paul Klee,
Franz Marc, Wassily Kandinsky and who not. We used to do that when I was a
student, you were always referred to see how the masters did it, to go to
museums and study the various art movements was a must….
I am happy to see that they
still do it today, study the rules of composition, the means available ….and
also the recording of time events.
